Every now and then, hunting around my hard drives I come across family shots or shots of friends that I see and then say the silent sentence “must do something with them” …and then nothing happens. Well I finally got round to collecting a few together. This first part are from Southern France where we stayed with a few pals in the stunning countryside not too far from Nimes and Montpellier. The scenery was beautiful; lots of rivers and I wanted to take a few where I was slightly further back just to let the scene play out with the locals and tourists interacting with the surroundings. I’ve always been drawn to big photos with a lot going on. A few years ago I went to a Massimo Vitelli exhibition, huge prints of people dotted around a landscape (in his case frequently the Italian coast) and it’s that distance that’s always been, at least, partially present in my own work.
